Recently, I was initiated into the tardy procedure at the cherub’s school.
Unfortunately, we all had sugar hang overs, and that morning was a bit rough. (Rough, as in the whining, wailing, gnashing of teeth and can’t possible go to school today variety.)
Soooo, evidently, you have to walk a tardy cherub, (or two), into school, sign them in and wait patiently in line until the secretary fills out a slip with your cherub’s name, number, rank and why you’re late on it. All the while those in authority give you the dirty look for the stink of ‘inferior parent’ that permeates from you.
Is it just me, or when did school become the authority on my kids? Do other schools in other areas act like this? It has been my consistent experience with every school every cherub has attended. The condescending looks, the disapproving stares. If I have stepped outside the lines or inconvenienced them in any way, then I must be a bad parent, and clearly its their job to educated my inferior parenting ass. Thank goodness they are here!
But where does this attitude come from? When did educators become the authority on parenting? When did falling behind, not knowing a rule or being late once, become synonymous with incompetent parenting? These are things I have been wondering about. I mean, I don’t think there’s anything I can do about it, other than roll my eyes as it happens. In other words, I have no idea where I’m going with this.
Maybe I just needed to poke fun in order to get even. Or maybe I’m just looking for a way to finish up NaBloMe once and for all?
With that, I officially close out November. Good Night and Good Luck.*
*Yes that is how I finished last year too. See I am to consistent.
